you definitely don't need a multiagency task force for this. just like walk outside 1 police plaza and you'll get 10-20 right there. bike around to different neighborhoods and you'll get at least a few at each precinct. I could have easily caught 50 by myself, saved the state a lot of money

NGL #Copilot (standalone) has been a good helper in figuring out tech things that would otherwise take me considerably effort if I did web searches on my own.
Sure, it doesn't give me the best solutions, but it almost always gets me in the right direction, and I estimate saves me at least the first 5-6 search steps. The quality and savings tend to reduce after that.
Overall, a good …

The far-right plan to use civil rights law to disrupt the 2024 election
At a diner just off the freeway north of Sacramento, a mostly white crowd listened intently as it learned how to “save America” by leaning on the same laws that enshrined the rights of Black voters 60 years ago.
Over mugs of coffee and plates of pot roast smothered in gravy, attendees in MAGA and tea party gear took notes about the landmark Voting Rights Act and studied the U.S. Constitution.
They pep…

Gentlepeople. You realize that neither Jia Tan, nor Jigar Kumar, nor Hans Jansen are actual people, right!?
Given the time zone of activity, sophistication (high), and time frame (long), it’s pretty obvious this has been a CCP team effort and all names are just sock puppets.

Democrats have officially decided to save Mike Johnson from MTG's ouster effort
news.yahoo.com/democrats-offic

A network of right-wing activists and allies of Donald J. Trump is quietly challenging thousands of voter registrations in critical presidential battleground states, an all-but-unnoticed effort that could have an impact in a close or contentious election.
Calling themselves election investigators, the activists have pressed local officials in Michigan, Nevada and Georgia to drop voters from the rolls en masse.
They have at times targeted Democratic areas, relying on new data prog…

Content warning: USPol, Anti-trans rhetoric from the right

It’s interesting hearing about men in women’s sports. I have never seen a man in a woman’s sport. I see trans women who are women in women’s sports.
If they think someone is going to go through the effort of transitioning to compete then they don’t know what it’s like to transition.

#Gentoo Infra: unable to get even the most trivial hosting for developer-made distfiles, first requested in 2007.
bugs.gentoo.org/176186
Also Gentoo Infra: putting a lot of effort to find, archive and mirror historical upstream distfiles.
bugs.gentoo.org/834712
I mean, Gentoo developers are using hacky solutions right now, and are irrevocably discarding old, custom-made distfiles, because of limited space on the disk used to host them. Wouldn't it make more sense to stop this from happening first?

I feel this so much. I left Lyft about 9 years ago, had a few hit positions since then, but am currently in a way less glamorous (but supremely better paying) role now. Much healthier work-life balance too.

California county on edge over bid to recall of far-right, election-denying official
On Super Tuesday, voters in northern California’s Shasta county weighed the fate of a far-right official who promoted conspiracy theories that elections were being rigged and backed a controversial effort to do away with voting machines and pursue a hand-count system.
But two weeks after the election, the recall remains too close to call, with the Shasta county supervisor Kevin Crye maintaining a…

A majority of the Supreme Court appeared deeply skeptical on Tuesday over efforts to curtail access to a widely used abortion pill, calling into question whether a group of anti-abortion doctors and organizations had a right to challenge the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the medication.
Describing the case as an effort by “a handful of individuals,” Justice Neil M. Gorsuch raised whether it would stand as “a prime example of turning what could be a small lawsuit into a nat…

Speaker Johnson moves on foreign aid, possibly triggering vote to oust him
House Speaker Mike Johnson is plowing ahead on a foreign aid plan that has roiled his conference and prompted two Republicans to push an effort to oust him from the chamber’s top job.

But instead of the complex four-part plan he floated this week,
Johnson now intends to try to pass five bills
— one each for aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Indo-Pacific allies, as well as a GOP wish list of foreign …

Explainer: What is the upcoming #patent #referendum about?
#UPC referendum is about
It gets some bits wrong and misleads at times, e.g. whether Irish businesses can register, protect, and challenge patent rights on a European scale; and their risk of central revocation is not really affected by the referendum result.
Still, nice to see them getting the ball rolling along the right lines.
